A delightful Rolex Tudor Royal ladies 9ct gold cocktail watch from 1961. Stamped with all of the details of the Chester assay office it passed through in 1961. These beautiful watches have become extremely collectable, with some buying them as “Birth year” watches. These lovely things were made by Rolex as part of their Tudor Royal range. I have seen one or two of the 9ct gold ladies watches for 1961, but not with this particularly attractive bows design at the top and bottom.
These are petite watches, which, because of the elegant size and stylish design, were named Cocktail watches. They took you through from daytime use to evening use. Very elegant and so wearable today.
This watch is on the black strap you can see in the images. I am not a watch expert so have no idea if it is original but the design is certainly the same, with gilt features and fastener. Clearly, it has been very well cared for. Aside from the bows, there are some other desirable features to this particular watch; it has the Rolex symbol on the side winder (not all of them do) and it also has such a contemporary look because of all the arabic numbers used. Sometimes you will see just 12, 3, 6 and 9 numbered but this watch has all of the numbers.
Of course it is a mechanical watch, it winds beautifully and also keeps good time. It has a movement with 17 rubies-how gorgeous! I wish I understood how that works!
She’s a beauty-sleek, stylish and so evocative of the Rolex Tudor Royal glamour of the 1960s. I have taken a photo of the stamps on the back cover-everything is as it should be.
Please do check that you are happy with the dimensions -the face is a petite size at approx 2.8cm including the bows. It should fit a wrist approx 14 to 17cm at the slimmest. It fits me with another hole spare.
In excellent condition….light surface wear only. It works very well indeed but you may perhaps want to have it serviced/ cleaned in the future as I am not sure when this was last done.
I will send by Signed For or else International Tracked and Signed. Thank you!
