Description
A substantial and hugely impressive Arts and Crafts design ring, executed in 14ct yellow gold and with a very wide and generous band. I am guessing that this is maybe vintage rather than antique as the proportions are large. There is a lot of gold in this ring (it weighs 5.9g) and I see the hand-crafted details so I assume this was a commission piece crafted in a studio. The jelly opals are delightful, each has interesting colour flashes, ranging from reds to greens and blues. Please know it is extremely difficult to capture the behaviour of opals on film but I hope I have given a few glimpses of the colours that are revealed as you move this beautiful ring around.
The six jelly opals are each individually bezel-set and there is an arrangement of gold tendrils between each on the outer edge of the ring. The base colour as you wear the ring seems to be a clear to pale orange, depending on the individual stone but as you wear it, you simply have to gaze at it as you move your hand in different lights. This is a wonderfully generous and substantial cluster ring, with such a wide band and feeling both secure and comfortable as you wear it. It is a joy- completely sensational!
It measures as approx UK size 0 (approx US size 7) and the face measures approx 2.2cm by 2cm so makes a fabulous eye-catching statement. In superb condition, both opals and gold and stamped as 14 carat gold on the inside of the band.
