This is an amazing piece of jewellery, to say the least! It is breathtakingly gorgeous and it shows a superlative level of both design and of handicraft. It is a technically substantial piece, unlike many of the “Edwardian moonstone” necklaces you see, which is exactly why it goes into the realm of Arts and Crafts instead of Edwardian design. Discovered in London, it is clearly by a top notch maker c1910, although unsigned, as was the norm. It came to me with other wonderful pieces including several by the Gaskins.

This has been a labour of love for the jeweller. The necklace is dripping with very lively Ceylon blue moonstones of graduating sizes, with the largest cabochons set in the suspended section of the main pendant. This necklace has it all-it is a riviere, meaning the moonstones go all the way around the necklace; it is a festoon as there are chains leading to the main pendant section and finally, there is also a fringe element with those four suspended moonstones, that dangle so elegantly. I adore so much about it…all 35(!!!) stones are of sumptuous quality and I applaud the jeweller for having inserted a small cabochon of moonstone into each chain just at the height to integrate into the fringe design too….stunning! Each moonstone has been set into its own, individual silver collar by hand! They are all open-backed too so the light can flood through the stones. I have never seen a necklace like this where, at one angle, all moonstones appear blue. Amazing!

An accomplished and important piece with many hand-wrought features, for example, if you look at the fabulous S clasp, then look at the link to either side, a solid twisted wire feature leading to the first moonstone in the chain on each side. I have never seen this sort of detail on the moonstone necklaces I see online. Each Ceylon blue moonstone has pairs of links connecting it to the next in the chain, so that the necklace is more substantial and heavier than you would find in an Edwardian piece. The pendant section drop is approx 6.5cm and the wearable length of the chain is approx 37cm (a touch over 14.5 inches).

Phenomenal condition-faultless stones and silver work. A dream! I will send by courier internationally or else Special Delivery within the UK. Thank you. Box in the images is for display only but I will send her in another box to keep her safe.
