Description

I love finding a piece of antique jewellery that has such a potent concentration of design in such a small space. This sings the work and talents of the designers and craftspeople in the Artificers’ Guild in London in the c1905 era. The sinuous stalks and hand-tooled leaves wind their way through this brooch, as if it were a dense, magical forest. It is such a wonderfully fine piece and would fit right into a museum collection of the AG work.

A jammy red and vibrant garnet is set with a fine ropework twist detail at its base -I love how it sits off centre, emphasising the non-symmetrical and organic nature of the A&C designs of the era. Three small opals are similarly set and are dotted around the silver foliage in the design. I love the berries dotted around the brooch and the fine ropework twist silver detailing running around the edge. It is punctuated in true AG style by flattened rivets, which appear regularly in their pieces too.

It is a sharp, clean and powerful design, enriched by the stones selected for the design. As all Artificers’ Guild pieces are…it is a triumph.  the diameter of the brooch is approx 3.2cm and it is in excellent condition with no damage or wear to the stones. Yipppeeee!

I shall send in a new gift box by Special Delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. Boxes in the images are not included. Thank you.
