Description
A statement and substantial vintage amethyst necklace c1940 with 30 beautifully large beads of amethyst and solid gold clasp fittings. The stones are well-matched in colour (an intense blueish purple) and are full of interesting inclusions and details. It is such a tactile thing and you cannot help moving ever bead around to stare at the inclusions and layers of detailing therein.
It is a sturdy, well-constructed piece with the benefit of the lovely hidden clasp detail, set in solid gold inside a large amethyst bead- what is not to love!
Each bead is double knotted into place so that there is a strong integrity to the piece-especially with the strong clasp, which is not so usual to find. A robust beauty that measures approx 50.5cm (a touch under 20 inches) in length. In excellent condition, with some naturally occurring surface reaching inclusions, as you would expect from natural gem stones. The largest bead is approx 2cm in diameter and the smallest, approx 1cm. A useful length to wear at your collar bone and it is such a lovely shade of purple too.
