Description

An impressive early Victorian matching suite of jewellery, crafted in 9ct gold and featuring beautiful, bright, faceted amethysts and those little seed pearls studding stars, which the Victorians loved in their designs. This is rather an exceptional set, and the amethysts have been set in gathered, cut down collet settings- with which people usually assume Georgian era. Featuring those lovely settings, I think this demi-parure may be early Victorian.

The brooch /pendant is an outstanding example, with large stones and that long drop to the final amethyst. It also shows two box chains suspended next to each other. It is such a ravishing design. To find the pendant still with her matching earrings is so special and they have also been fitted with posts and butterfly backs in gold at some point in their history. Again, the same settings and emulating the pear shaped amethyst drop on those seed pearl, star studded links as is found on the drop on the pendant. The central amethyst alone measures approx 19mm x 15mm so this is of impressive proportions. Lovely to see a more substantial set, as some others from the era are so diminutive.

The pendant is marked “9CT” on a jump ring at the bale and the earring backs are stamped “9CT”. The stones are, quite simply put, delicious. Fabulous plum colour, so lively and bright with no chips or nibbles. The colour is intense so they may well be Siberian amethysts.  The pendant / brooch can be worn as either and is approx 6.7cm in height and the earrings have a drop of approx 3.1cm. I have used one of my own (more modern 9ct gold) chains which I am willing to sell, if you feel you need one as the listing is for the brooch / pendant and earrings only. In excellent condition-the only thing I could note was that there has been a historic repair to the suspended chain on the right near the top but it was clearly well secured. Stones are in really pleasing condition.

I shall send in a display box by Special Delivery within the UK or else by Express courier internationally. Boxes in the images are for display only-thank you.
