A gorgeous antique Victorian silver book chain necklace, choker length at c40cm (touch under 16 inches) in length. From the late 1800s, it is amazing to see how contemporary this design can seem. This beautiful, substantial piece even has the original tongue and box fastener so that you get an “invisible” look to how it fastens-most unusual to still retain that.
I have seen similar Victorian necklaces to this but, in my view, this design is the most striking. With it’s oval silver links, linking rectangular links of what seems to be the letter I in Roman numerals pierced into the silver. Such a simple and understated design but a quality piece.
No marks (nothing unusual for the era) and it tests as sterling silver. Authentic and beautiful, she is in lovely condition with the clasp functioning well. Only thing worth noting is that there is a historic repair (in silver-hurrah!!! somebody knew how to do it smoothly and correctly) to one single link on the reverse. Nothing to see at all from the front. Somebody LOVED this beautiful thing!
