Description
A lovely sterling silver buckle, clearly signed by the firm of Murrle Bennett and carrying London import hallmarks for the year 1900. I have seen a very similar piece which was attributed to Patriz Huber. It is a simple yet striking buckle with the three sinuous lines evoking the Jugendstil / Art Nouveau era. It also reminded me of the Ludwig Knupfer silver designs on the edges of c1900 purses and bags.
An interesting piece for collectors, as I have not seen this particular buckle design before. A beautiful piece, that you could adapt to a large, statement pendant if you so desired. If the rod and claws were removed, the MB marks and date marks would still be retained. It measures approx 6cm by 3.8cm and weighs approx 20.8g.
In pleasing condition-retaining a little patina. Full UK hallmarks for London import, 1900 and the MB & Co mark.
