A very rare find indeed for a number of reasons, not least because of the terminating drop being a mounted heart-shaped opal. What a treat! I can honestly say I have not seen this type of design before in a negligee necklace. Not stamped, asides from the replacement bolt ring (9ct) and the rest of the necklace looks a more buttery yellow, so I’m imagining 15ct. That would be completely in keeping with this being a quality piece, as the opals are deliciously fiery, with many vibrant colour flashes…electric greens, blues, red, orange and so on The stones are a wonderful match for each other.

Both of these glorious opals are claw-set and open-backed, allowing the light to really highlight the multitude of colour shifts as the necklace is moved. The top opal is a mounded oval shape and set on the horizontal. Suspended below it is the knife-edged elongated gold link that has the opal heart fixed to it at the end. I love how the long gold drop is connected to the actual heart itself, giving a solidity, meaning the heart is always at the correct angle to the link. A lovely feature you just don’t see too often at all.

A sleek and elegant piece of jewellery, screaming the fact she is a rarity. A beautifully evocative and typically Edwardian sentiment, based on love and the permanence of love. The length of the drop section is a touch under 5cm and the wearable length of the trace chain is approx 38.5cm (approx 15.25 inches). She has been carefully looked after and is in excellent condition. May benefit from being polished further, as some patina.

A wonderful survivor of Edwardian England and such an amazing design that certainly does not come along often at all.

I will send in a new gift box to keep her safe and send by international express courier or else by Special Delivery within the UK. Box in the images is for display only. Thank you.
