Description

This is such a wonderful design, c1930 by Bernard Instone, which is also a book piece, appearing on p142 of Tracy Henriksen’s book “Bernard Instone  Designer and craftsman: the art of a jeweller”. Five beautiful, statement citrines are set on the chain, interspersed with small BI motif silver panels that have been enamelled in a pale yellow. What a wow of a necklace to welcome in the Spring and Summer-citrines are wonderful stones and these large examples are bright and beautifully-cut.

The only other similar necklace I have come across was actually a piece from the Instone family collection, which Bernard had made for his daughter-in-law. It is in immaculate condition, with all enamelling and stones in superb condition. I love that this also has those beautiful links between the panels, that have a gold nail-head / rivet feature. I have seen that feature on the more select of his pieces.

The citrines bounce the light tremendously and graduate in size from the largest at approx 12mm diameter to the smallest at approx 9mm in diameter.  I love too that the box clasp is covered by an enamel panel so you get a seamless line of detailing right around the neck. The tongue is signed “BI SILVER”.

It measures approx 39.5cm (a touch over 15.5 inches) so it wears as a shorter choker-style necklace. In museum-quality condition and signed, so a lovely buy for collectors, especially with the design being the same as a family piece.

I shall send in a new gift box (not the box in the images) by special delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. Thank you.
