Description

This incredible piece of antique Arts and Crafts fine jewellery is simply remarkable. It is an important piece of work by Charlotte Newman, who was known in her jewellery work as Mrs Newman and who was perhaps England’s first pioneeringly successful female jeweller. She was designing and creating pieces in the Victorian era, with her shop moving to 10 Saville Row (prestigious address in London) in around 1893. This fabulous necklace comes complete with the original maker’s fitted and satin-lined box. What a rarity!

A spectacularly beautiful necklace, set with four large and grand Ceylon blue moonstones, which are highly adularescent as you can see. They seem to be like liquid in their appearance. A horizontally set stone forms the centre point of the design. There are three drop sections culminating in a large oval moonstone, which is finely spectacle-set. The central drop has two graduated diamonds set above the moonstone and the two side drops are set with one diamond above the moonstone.
The buttery yellow 15ct gold looks superb in that blue velvet box too. The original toggle fastener is petite and hints at tiny, expert hands having crafted it by hand. It is simply-put, a sublime piece of jewellery-understated, yet exquisitely beautiful. Mrs Newman crafted this herself and to have the necklace resting in its original box too….well, it is a dream piece of English jewellery history!
The central drop of the pendant section is approx 5cm and the wearable length of the chain is approx 38cm (15 inches). In superb condition with no damage.
I shall send in a new gift box as the boxes in the images are for display only. Complimentary special delivery within the UK is included, as is International express courier. Thank you.
