A wonderful Arts and Crafts brooch from Bernard Instone, which is a book piece, appearing in the Bernard biography and catalogue of work by Tracy Henriksen. It is a beautifully joyful statement of Arts and Crafts design.
Large, sweeping leaves drape dramatically around the nestling jewels. The large blue cabochons are actually rose quartz stones in foiled settings. The colour is superb….like water but with a vibrancy and shimmer under different lights. There are also three claw-set amethysts and four claw-set rock crystals. It is a dense and substantial piece, which feels squat in your hand. It also, pleasingly, is a signed piece, carrying a plaque to the verso with the maker’s mark B.I
It measures approx 5.6cm by 3cm and is in excellent order, clearly having been well cared-for. There are some images including the earrings (available for sale separately) and the ring (already sold). This listing is for the brooch only. She’s a beauty!
