Description
A fabulous Arts and Crafts buckle from Murrle Bennett complete with maker’s mark and marks for London 1903. This was really a crossover time between the Jugendstil and Arts and Crafts, and this buckle reflects this fusion beautifully. It is reminiscent of the German Jugendstil designers’ work, complete with the sinuous, rounded lines and the faux rivets which decorate both elements in the buckle.
A lovely piece for collectors as the enamel is in tip-top condition, as you can see. Vivid colours include turquoise, cobalt blue and yellow. The shine from the enamel is superb, especially considering her age. On the left half of the buckle as you view it, is the Murrle Bennett stamp, along with full English hallmarks for London 1903. On the right hand side we have the date letter for 1903 and the lion passant mark for sterling silver.
A beautiful piece in excellent condition.
The buckle measures approx 7.3cm by 4.3cm. A collector’s dream piece to acquire.
