A glorious piece of design from the early days of the Art Deco period (late 1920s) and most likely made in Germany, because of the superb quality of every part of this beauty. I have come across a “target” design pendant similar to this in the past, but this example is particularly beautiful-having the two very different examples of abalone / mother-of-pearl within the same design.
The green outer halos of the main pendant and the three drops, shimmers and flashes with pinks, purples, blues and so on. It is grounded by the beautiful creamy white mother-of-pearl centres of the discs. Very unusual and another sign of quality, is the fact that the three suspended discs are two-sided, so that even if they move around whilst being worn-they will always show the “right” side. I certainly haven’t seen that before in this type of design. A wonderfully considered feature
The work in the necklace is precise and fine, even in the use of two different types of silver chains. The main necklace part has tiny, textured (hand crafted most likely) links and the three smaller suspending chains are in a finer trace chain. These negligee pendants were designed to hang at the ladies’ cleavage and goodness, is this example so eye catching!
The height of the pendant from the top to the bottom of the central drop is approx 6.3cm and the wearable length of the chain is approx 62cm (24.5 inches)
In excellent order-some light wear to the main shell as you would completely expect. A tiny touch of carefully applied olive oil will help it glisten even more, if you feel it needs it. A beautiful piece of Art Deco design….a real rarity.
Please note the boxes in the images are for display only, however, I will send in a new gift box. Please note I am not sending to Germany at the moment, thank you.
