Description

A large ring fully signed by Bernard Instone in a rare design, 1940s. This ring is on a solid, thick band which appears on the large statement cocktail rings of the 1940s to 1950s. It is a substantial design in sterling silver, with elongated oxidised silver leaves all studded with marcasites. It has a fabulous 3D quality as it has two separate layers in the design.

I believe the large, central faceted stone to be a paste topaz-so just the right colour was achieved. There are four studded marcasites which link to the stone from the large oval outer section of the ring. Draped leaves from either side meet at both he top section of the ring and the bottom section. All dotted with twinkling marcasites.

On each shoulder sits a fan design of leaves, once again dotted with marcasites. This is a large and unusual ring. The central stone sits in its finely millegrained setting.

The face of the ring is approx 2.4cm in length. It measures as approx UK size N (US 6.75). In pleasing condition with a touch of patina. Stamped on the inside (as is typical for these 1940s -1950s rings) “SILVER B.I”.
