Description
This is a super scarce and rather majestic antique platinum ring, most likely a one-off and crafted by hand in the 2nd half of the 1920s. It screams the ultimate Art Deco statement of sleek, modernist aeronautical design, with its stepped shoulders set with a diamond on each side and those large single claws at North and South position. The principal greenish / blue turquoise stone is over 21 carats in weight.
This is an impressive ring with such an Art Deco cleanliness of design and it looks wonderful on the finger, as you can see. I have had it back from the jewellery valuers who have valued her at £2,500 and I am happy to include the valuation certificate with the ring. My belief is that the ring is an early example and is French. The quality and design is superlative and most resembles quality French Art Deco pieces I have come across before.
The large principal turquoise cabochon is domed and measures approx 2cm by 1.5cm. The platinum structure is bold and thick, which is quite a rarity and adds to the clean lines of this design (platinum has been XRF tested). The stepped shoulders are each set with a transition cut diamond.
The shank is a rough D shape, has been altered / resized in the past and is not perfectly shaped, as you would expect for her age. The structure for the whole ring in platinum is marvellous to study. There are hand-etched jeweller’s numbers on the inside of the shank, reading “4814” and that most likely is the commission number. The ring is approx UK size O (US 7-7.25). It is a delightful antique ring, totally evocative of the 1920s Art Deco movement and in good condition for her age.
I shall send in a new ring box by complimentary express courier internationally or else by Special Delivery within the UK. Thank you.
