A WOW of a statement ring in the finest materials of 18ct yellow gold in an Italian rigato design (also termed macri), which shows the “ribbed” wide band section in 18ct yellow gold. This is trimmed on either end by a separate band in 18ct white gold and studded with a lovely 11 sparkly diamonds of a good clarity and colour in each end section. This fabulous ring would have been made in Italy for “Mayor’s” which is a small chain of high calibre jewellers across some parts of the US. Over the years they have commissioned excellent jewellers and jewellery companies to create rings for them to sell in their Mayor’s branches. If you glance at the Mayors website, you will see the high end designer brands they sell. The quality of this ring is fabulous, so to me, its Italian roots are not to be denied.

If you look at Buccellati and Bulgari rings of this style, you will see the immediate kinship, this ring is wide banded, impressive and looks superlative on the finger. A very glamorous ring, which can be worn during the day, as well as being a showcase evening ring.

The diamonds have been tested and there is just over 1ct weight in them, collectively. The ring is stamped clearly with the Mayor’s stamp plus an 18Kt stamp. A heavy ring at 14.1g….lovely! A very wide 1.5cm in width at the widest point on the face. It measures as a UK M to N, which is a US (6.25 to 6.25). Very comfortable on the finger.

In my research on this ring, I found another being sold for $4,000 so I believe this is well priced. She has been pre-loved and carries signs of a previous life. A little bending of one of the lines of rigato at the back…minute but I can see under a loupe. There are teeny tiny little impressions in places on the rigato on the front from wear (teeniest scratches and dents but we’re talking miniscule) but they are mentioned for accuracy purposes and not a big flaw at all. I’ll try to take an image to show you what I mean. In my head I see them as “stars in the night”. I would never sell something I would not be delighted to wear myself and this ring is an absolute joy!
