Description

This is one of the most impressive Arts and Crafts drop brooches I have come across, not least because of its large size. You could easily have your jeweller attach a dog clip to the top of the “pendant” drop and use it either on its original, matching bar brooch as you see here, or else with a chain as a pendant. Attributed to Amy Sandheim, London, late 1920s, it is a lovely, hand-crafted piece with moonstones detailing on all 4 sides.

I love the comprehensive, silver cap that covers nearly half of the Swiss lapis. It is wonderfully decorated with leaves, stalks and forget-me-not flowers. A round and an oval moonstone are set among silver line work detailing on both larger sides of the stone. A further oval moonstone is set among a stalk and berries down each side too. That is one of the reasons it would work so well as a pendant too.

The bar brooch section is set with a Ceylon blue moonstone and there are hear-shaped leaves, one at each end of the horizontal stalks. It is a carefully-considered piece, with all elements tying in together. Seven moonstones in all.

In pleasing condition for her age, the brass pin is a little bent as you can see. I believe a brass hinge, clasp and pin were used for extra strength as it is quite a substantial and heavy piece. It measures approx 7.8cm in height.

I shall send in a new gift box (not the box in the images) and by complimentary special delivery within the UK / express courier internationally. Thank you.
