Description

A wonderful design in this Art Deco silver gilt Egyptian scarab beetle design brooch. The blue and white plique-a-jour against the silver gilt and the darkest blue of the scarab beetle, is just lovely. It is a large example and I have to say the detailing is exquisite; right down to the snakes forked tongue and the rows of tiny lime green enamelled dots.

Crafted in the earlier years of the twentieth century, this statement brooch carries the 800 stamp and another mark to the left of it, which I can’t quite decipher. I am unsure whether this a German or an Egyptian piece – but it is a lovely thing. The blue flowers represented on either side of the scarab beetle are charming and I adore the snakes’ heads details-the way they look to each side.

Quite a large example of antique plique-a-jour, she measures approx 6.2cm wide. There is a shaving off the side of the glass scarb beetle but as it is in such a dark colour, it is not noticeable when you wear it. A wonderful antique Egyptian piece.

I shall send by Tracked and Signed in a new gift box as the box in the images is for display only. Thank you.
