A very distinctive Arts and Crafts brooch from the c1900 era, which is both large and eye-catching. The whole oval form is decorated with stylised leaves and berries in an openwork design. Everything made by hand so it is a beautifully organic piece. The flower has such a lovely and particularly unusual form so it could be someone recognises the motif and the designer.
As well as the stylised leaves and clusters of berries, along with the odd single berry, there are also coiled tendrils of silver wire of varying thicknesses. The large simple C catch is also different from what I usually see and the whole piece feels quite solid and rustic.
It is a large brooch at approx 5.4cm wide (including pin) by 3.6cm. Unmarked. In pleasing condition. There seems to be a tiny indentation in the turquoise at the bottom, as it goes into the setting but I wonder if that is actually original to the piece as the stone has been nipped into its setting. There is still patina on the front and verso so it would polish more if you preferred.
A wonderfully hand crafted piece showing the huge amount of work it took to create. I shall send in a new gift box by Special Delivery within the UK and by International Tracked and Signed to overseas destinations.
