This is an impressive and striking mixed opals Arts and Crafts necklace that is most certainly a unique piece. It is such an attractive piece, with the beautifully-worked leaves, all applied by hand too, as well as the rich mix of shimmering and lively blues and greens from the opals. I believe it would have been created in c1920s in England, as it is very much rooted in the English Arts and Crafts tradition. I am attributing it to Amy Sandheim, as it has some of her typical touches to the sterling silver design, as well as the verso showing some construction features I have come across in Amy’s work previously.

It is a wow of a piece – the two large jelly opals / water opals feature a mix of light blue to orange as you move them, along with the electric purple in the top layer of the opals…particularly the bottom opal in the drop. The other 9 are (I believe) black opal doublets- with deep, rich colours, such as electric green and electric turquoise. I adore the open design and the larger size of this pendant, so it cannot fail to be noticed when worn. The two large opals are in pristine condition and the 9 smaller opals have a little wear to one or two of the edges of the doublets, in line with her age. She is a vivid, robust, yet fragile piece in her design-as there is so much naturalistic detailing in those hand created leaves and berries.

The pendant measures approx 7.8cm in height and the length of the accompanying antique sterling chain is approx 55cm (21.5 inches). No markings (as you would expect for antique A&C) but is sterling silver throughout.

I will package carefully and post with Special Delivery or else International express courier. The box in the images is not included but I will package in a new necklace presentation gift box. Thank you!
