Description
A wonderful, antique c1905 known Liberty & Co design, with hand crafted leaves details giving it more than a nod to the Art Nouveau ideals of design of the c1900 era. The two sets of curled, sinuous stalks at the bottom and top of the design add to the Art Nouveau flavour. Pleasingly, it comes with its original silver chain and distinctive Liberty & Co clasp.
The glossy and vibrant enamel panel is so eye-catching, with its blues, green and yellow. Many of these Liberty enamel panels were rumoured to be made at the Varley workshops…this one is certainly in pristine condition and it sings its colours loudly. I can see a golden river, some poplars to the right of the image and a windmill in the shadows at the back of the scene. The decorative leaves open work mount certainly enhances the enamel panel and gives it further lightness.
The bale is a typical Liberty triangular bale and, as mentioned, the fine silver chain is the original to the piece, as it has that lovely, typical Liberty design. The pendant is stamped simply SILVER to the verso, again, typical of this range. I have seen brooches with these enamel panels but I have to say that the pendants are my favourite. This pendant measures approx 4.6cm from the bale to the base and the length of the chain is approx 41cm (16 inches).
This is a very wearable everyday pendant necklace and is so cheery in colours-in excellent condition too. I will send by complimentary tracked and signed in a new gift box as the boxes in the images are for display only. Thank you.
