Description

If you have been observing antique Edwardian and Victorian pink paste necklaces being sold in the last year or two, you will have noticed how much in demand they are. This magnificent example from the early Edwardian era, c1910, is a wonderful example, designed as a large pendant necklace with those lovely five drops. It has four pairs of matching spacers, set with large faceted pink pastes. I am assuming the pastes are foiled beneath, as there is a richness and intensity to the colour, bouncing the light around too.

The central section of the pendant has a halo of real pearls set in scalloped settings around a central pink paste. A tiny pearl decorates the top of each drop too. – such attention to detail on this carefully crafted piece. I adore the four teardrop-shaped pink paste drops and that central drop, which is more intricate. The pink is vibrant and it was well-conceived to add those tiny green pastes in the central detailing only, as a foil to the pink….leaving the pinks to roam unhindered over the rest of the necklace.

Created in c1910 era of Edwardian and Belle Epoque influences, which marry together here. In sterling silver throughout an in all original condition-right down to its original barrel clasp fastener. The only tiny thing to mention is a smallest of small pink paste is set rather less forward in her setting than the others…but she is in there still, so, no missing or chipped stones etc. In excellent condition. You could polish further if that is what you prefer, although liquids should be avoided as most of these stones are closed-back. She has clearly been lovingly cared for. An outstanding piece of jewellery.

I enjoy appreciating the work of the craftspeople making those pink pastes. Apparently there was quite an art to it and you can certainly appreciate that when you see it done so beautifully. Huge amounts of work have gone into this amazing necklace and she is a true gem of the Edwardian era.

The height of the pendant section is approx 7.4cm and the wearable length of the necklace is approx 42cm (approx 16.5 inches). It fastens with a barrel clasp.

I shall send by international express courier or else by special delivery within the UK. I shall include a new necklace presentation box as the boxes in the images are for display only. Thank you.
