Description
A spellbinding fringe necklace c1900-1910, featuring dozens of sparkling, faceted garnets, both on the main chain of the necklace and as single drops plus knife edge drops. Incredible detailing with everything from the hand-cut stones to the individual settings for each and every garnet and pearl.
It is in excellent order with no chips to the stones…delightful. There is a range of hues in the garnets running from the more pink shades to the juicy red shades so that when you hold her up to the light-you can marvel at the symphony of colours. The lovely three part links forming the main part of the necklace have a faceted garnet at their centre, flanked by a seed pearl on either side. Then there is the alternate length drops, culminating with the longest drop at the front, measuring approx 3.2cm in height including the chain element.
A shimmering beauty of an antique fringe necklace, with gorgeous bezel-set stones, allowing the light to catch those facets beautifully. There is good value here in terms of stones and also in the fact that the detailing is designed to cover the front and sides of the necklace so others can admire the design from those different positions. There is a delicate gold wash over the piece so I have passed a specialist gold cleaning cloth over it very carefully. best not to overpolish antique pieces really.
The wearable length of the chain is approx 39.5cm (15.5 inches). She has good weight to her too so feels wonderfully substantial, unlike some of the other super light Edwardian necklaces.
In excellent condition-all stones present and intact, thankfully. There has been a replacement catch added at some point. I shall post by Tracked and Signed and in a new gift box to keep her safe. Boxes in the images are for display only, thank you.
