Description

A wonderful, realistically organic design from the Edwardian era, c1910, which really does have such an attractive form. There are two chased (etched) silver gilt vine leaves at the very top of the design, along with the central stalk and several beautifully coiled tendrils. The Ceylon moonstones have been used to represent the grapes and each stone adds to the organic realism, by being a slightly different shape to that of its neighbouring stone. Lovely!

As you hopefully can see, the stones have some adularescence, meaning that they shimmer blue when the brooch is moved around. Although designed as a brooch (with original pin and rollover safety clasp) it has been created so thoughtfully that if you pass a chain around the pin at the hinge side, you see that the brooch hangs at exactly the right angle to be worn as a pendant. Perfect! I have demonstrated with one of my own silver chains however, the chain is not included in the sale.

The brooch is in pleasing antique condition, with all stones present and undamaged. I love that many of the moonstones are oval as it adds a lovely organic touch to the piece. It measures approx 6cm in height by approx 2.8cm wide. Unstamped but tests as sterling.

A beautiful brooch which could also be worn as a pendant and great that you have two ways to wear it, making it a versatile piece indeed. I shall send in a new gift box, not the box in the images (display only) by complimentary tracked and signed post. Thank you.
