Description

This is a lovely piece of authentic Art Nouveau jewellery, which is fully stamped with UK hallmarks from the Birmingham assay office for 9ct gold and for the year of registration, 1906. It also carries its clear maker’s mark as an added bonus. Stamped “HM” for Henry Mathews who created Art Nouveau jewellery and this is surely one of his most beautiful designs. Even the 9ct gold stamped Edwardian fetter chains are original to the pendant, which makes the necklace such an authentic piece and a super treat! I did see a brooch in this design sell at a top auction house years ago but I have not seen the necklace before. Again- a treat!

The sinuous whiplash design on the pendant is so indicative of the Art Nouveau designs of the era. I adore the open work nature of the pendant and even the way the central mother-of-pearl cabochon is set in a deep gold setting, elevates the look of the piece further. The tiny river river pearl suspended below the main section, adds balance to the piece and is also a typical addition from the designs in that era.

The gorgeous gold fetter chains attach separately at the top of the pendant and are stamped with the Edwardian stamp “9CT”. It is an extremely attractive piece of antique jewellery and has really been taken care of- as such, it is in excellent condition and ready to wear or else gift. The pendant section measures approx 3.5cm in height and the wearable length of the chain is approx 47cm (18.5 inches), a useful length and not too short as is sometimes found with antique necklaces.

I will send in a new gift box by Special Delivery within the UK or else by courier internationally. Boxes in the images are for display only-thank you.
