A hugely attractive silver plate (no marks so saying plate to be on the safe side) belt buckle very much rooted in the Art Nouveau movement, with flowers and dragonflies. I think this may be vintage rather than antique but there is a lot of patina to it so it does have quite some age to it. A sumptuous design of dragonflies hovering over flowers, both of which are picked out in enamel. The dragonflies in blue and green guilloche enamel and the flowers in champleve enamel, this time yellow and orange.
The buckle does have a very Arts and Crafts feel to it too. It measures approx 8.3cm wide and approx 6.2cm high. It would polish further as I have left the patina it came with. Rather an enigma elsewise, no marks for the maker and I have no idea of date so I would suggest vintage. It is a beautiful design and does typify the Art Nouveau designs we all love.
In pleasing condition with heavy patina, you may wish to polish away. The very tip of the right dragonfly’s tail has not been infilled right to the end with enamel. This is a manufacturing quirk not damage. I will send in a box to keep her safe, by complimentary tracked and signed postage. Thank you.
