This is such a rare and fabulous, signed Arts and Crafts piece by the hugely sought-after Arthur and Georgie Gaskin -a design I have not seen before and dating from the c1900 era in Birmingham. It could easily be a Museum piece as it is in astoundingly good condition too. All such precise and beautifully-handcrafted work, which really enables this pendant to sing the virtues of the Arts and Crafts movement. It is such an attractive design, with those five domed white moonstones surrounding the central mother-of-pearl disc. These elements together give such a bright, white and rather ethereal look to this fairly large pendant.

I adore too, the way the handcrafted bale is decorated with the same silver loop work, which runs around the edge of the circular main plaque section. Every loop worked by hand and applied by hand in what must have been such a time consuming process. The white moonstones and mother-of-pearl in the centre of the plaque are, collectively, reminiscent of a flower. Each sits in its own, carefully constructed bezel setting (closed-back) with a fine rope work detail at its base. There is a filigree open work scroll design in silver that weaves the “petals” together. A typical Gaskins’ drop in mother-of-pearl and having the same fine rope work detailing, as well as three tiny silver balls near the link. Gloriously it carries a clear “G” mark to confirm it as a Gaskins’ piece. A wonderful and almost certainly unique piece of work with all of the gravitas that the Gaskins’ work carries with it.

Please don’t let the patina you see in the images put you off from the lightness and fabulousness of this necklace-I have not polished her but have left it for you to decide upon. If you do decide to clean / polish further, please take some care as the moonstones are closed-back and you certainly would not wish to spoil that pure lustre you get from those stones in this design. The pendant (including the bale) measures approx 6.1cm in height. I am happy to include the antique silver chain too, in the price, it is stamped “SILVER 800”. The chain measures approx 44.5cm (17.5 inches) in length.

I shall send in a new necklace box by complimentary Special Delivery within the UK or else by complimentary express courier internationally.
