Description
A particularly feminine and ethereal Arts and Crafts brooch c1905, in light colours and having amazing gold-coloured Mother-of-pearl which really tones in with the tiny gold leaves covering the design. It definitely shows a delicate touch as the work is so detailed and precise. Perhaps created by one of the Guilds?
A central, domed cabochon of rose quartz sits at the centre, with four golden Mother-of-pearls bezel set at the cardinal points. In between each is a pear-shaped white Mother-of-pearl, set with lots of tiny silver claws. A pair of golden leaves and a central berry is a motif which is then worked in both the inner circle and the external edge of the brooch. Very eye-catching and very beautiful.
The brooch retains its original pin and rollover safety clasp. There is a small loop at the top of the brooch, through which a simple jump ring has been slotted so that you can wear as a pendant. It would suit a gold bale too, if you decided to change the basic one later. It could also easily be removed altogether if you wish to wear the piece as a brooch only.
The diameter of the brooch is approx 3.4cm. In pleasing condition, with some patina. Such a pretty combination of colours with the pink, gold and white.
I shall send in a gift box by Special Delivery within the UK or else by International Tracked and Signed. Boxes in the images are for display only and are not included.
