Description
What a fabulous antique, hand-crafted Arts and Crafts pendant necklace in such an attractive giardinetti design. The design was popular in the late 19th century and early 20th century. It is a word derived from the Italian word for gardens and as you can see, it usually consisted of a basket of flowers. Here we have an ornate, open rose in silver, which is flanked on either side by a very sparkly amethyst stone. Each is held in place by sets of double claws. I believe it to be from the c1920-1930 era.
I love the small, hand-tooled leaves that are set around the rose section too. Not only is it a large, statement pendant necklace, which will get it noticed, but also the amethysts are a pale plum purple in colour and look wonderful too. They definitely elevate the piece even further. To add to the interest of the piece, there is a lovely real pearl suspended below the main section, which adds that sense of articulation. It has such a rich and creamy lustre. It really is a beautiful necklace all round.
From the spacer link above the pendant to the bottom of the pearl is approx 8cm and the length of the accompanying chain is approx 46cm (8 inches). The pendant is stamped as sterling silver but here is no maker’s mark. It is in excellent condition-both silver work and stones/pearl.
