A lovely hand-crafted faceted rock crystal drop pendant necklace, c1920. It has all the sparkle from that beautifully-faceted quartz stone, you would hope to find. I love the hand-tooled leaves and that opal set at the front in its own mille grain setting. Lovely! Possible makers include Sandheim and Thew but not enough to go on, to make a solid attribution.
I love the way the leaves have been draped down the design with their stalks all curled over the same at the top to create a lovely edge all the way around the pendant. It is such a wearable piece as it is a lovely size at approx 5.1cm including the bale. Wonderfully unusual to have an opal feature and this round opal has a blue tone with blue, orange and yellow flashes. In excellent order and it truly bounces the light around on those copious facets.
I am including the long, silver sautoir chain, which has diamond-shaped links at intervals along it. (short chain not included) You can see the length that these pendants would have been worn at-quite incredible. However, with a sautoir, you can always double or triple the chain to reach a better position for the pendant. Handy to have a sautoir in your jewellery arsenal and you can always mix and match chains between your own pieces.
The sautoir chain measures approx 97cm (38 inches) in length. Excellent to have the sautoir length-and you can double up the chain on the neck for a shorter length if you desire. As mentioned the pendant height is approx 5.1cm. In pleasing condition, both stones and silver work, with some patina on the leaves (it adds depth to the veins on the leaves) and chain too.
