A rare and wonderfully hand-crafted Amy Sandheim pendant necklace, c1930. It comes with its very distinctive, articulated silver sautoir chain which has faceted rock crystal beads in groupings of 3 along the sautoir. Fabulous to have the pendant with its original chain.
Each of these rare Sandheim pieces is different to the last, having all been created individually by Sandheim herself. I adore the purity of this piece-with rock crystal and blister pearl keeping the colour palette light and understated. The silver cap on this beautiful faceted rock crystal, has been created with vine leaves and hand crafted bunches of grapes. I wonder whether this particular piece inspired the range of A&C grape vine pendants, which you come across in antique shops occasionally? This is hand crafted and the bunches of grapes have been excellently worked so there is depth and texture to them. The leaves and stalks silver design on the front of the silver cap have a bezel-set blister pearl sitting among them. If you turn the pendant over, you see that the leaves and stalks design continues onto the back too.
Situated above the large teardrop rock crystal is an unusual carved bell flower in rock crystal and above that, a large silver bale studded with three silver balls, which I have seen on other original Amy pieces. The pendant measures approx 8cm in height
I adore this articulated, tightly linked chain in silver- Amy always used such amazing chains. On each side of the lower part of the chain on either side, are two groupings of graduated, faceted rock crystal beads, the largest bead being in the centre. The symmetry and positioning of the beads are such that they pair up horizontally when you wear the necklace. The sautoir chain measures approx 97cm (38 inches) in length. Excellent to have the sautoir length-and you can double up the chain on the neck for a shorter length if you desire.
In excellent condition-with the large rock crystal drop and the beads being in pleasing condition. Again-excellent to have such a well-preserved piece of her work, with the original chain.
