Description
What a sweet brooch from the c1900 era….very much from the Art Nouveau design era, with enamel plaques of a young couple and a cluster of mistletoe leaves. Set among the leaves are three small and fiery opals. The opals flash from pale blue to greens to reds.
A treasured way to celebrate the love of a couple by inserting these photographic / ceramic plaques in to each end of the brooch. Mistletoe represents romance and vitality, which is the reason we kiss under it at Christmas time. The opals were seen as lucky stones, by which to underpin the romantic connection. Such a lovely little brooch, reminding us of the significance of symbolism in Victorian jewellery.
The brooch could possibly be a Jugendstil piece in a metal mix called “double” which is a gilt metal. The brooch is in good condition for her age. It measures approx 4.2cm by 2.4cm. Original (straight!) pin and C clasp.
I shall send in a gift box by Special Delivery within the UK or else by International tracked and signed. Boxes in the images are for display only and are not included. Thank you.
