Description
This is such a delightful design, crafted in the c1900 era and of the Arts and Crafts genre, retaining its original, hand-crafted toggle fastener. I believe it to be a unique piece and the design is swoon worthy, with that extended drop featuring five moonstones in such a beautiful arrangement. For me, the complete design is such a harmonious arrangement.
These moonstones are Ceylon blue stones and have a high degree of adularescence, as you can see in the images, with those incredible shifts to blues that you expect to see from Ceylon moonstones. The silver chain is set with graduated oval stones from the centre and up the sides to a certain point and no stones set directly at the back, which of course makes it comfortable to wear as they don’t catch on your collar. Nine oval and round stones are set on the main part of the chain-each carefully set into its finely worked setting with lots of those delicate, tiny teeth. The largest oval moonstone is set in the centre of the chain and suspended below it is a cluster of three circular moonstones of different sizes, with one final moonstone at the end of the drop, completing the design in such an elegant way. The lovely hand-crafted toggle fastener is another reminder that this piece from the early years of the 1900s, gives more than a nod to the Arts and Crafts movement.
This beautiful necklace exudes good taste and classic style so it would be a lovely addition to just about any outfit I’m sure. I have checked the stones and they are all in pleasing condition, with no damage…hurrah. The central drop section measures approx 6.3cm and the wearable length of the chain is approx 39.5cm (15.5 inches).
I shall send by complimentary Special Delivery within the UK or by express courier internationally. Boxes in the images are not included but I will send in a lovely new necklace presentation box for you. Thank you.
