Description
This is a truly a beautifully-executed and delicate looking German Jugendstil / Art Nouveau necklace from the c1900 era, most likely crafted in Pforzheim. The use of light blue sapphires set against that lovely creamy white mother-of-pearl shell is a sublime choice. Having several unusual features, I find it a fine and unique piece.
Firstly, I love how the chains are “tucked in” at the sides of the pendant via those side loops. Then there is the single square-cut sapphire at the top of the pendant, dotted with a single silver ball. There is a row of coiled silver spirals at the bottom of the shells’ setting and five round bezel-set sapphires of a light blue colour. The colour match for all of the sapphires is excellent.
Both the design and execution show a certain lightness so it is definitely an elegant and tasteful piece of jewellery. The pendant measures approx 4.6cm in height and the wearable length of the chain is approx 39cm (15.25 inches). There is a German mark near the clasp, although that may well be just the maker of the chain. In excellent condition and ready to make you smile.
I shall send in a new gift box (not the box in the images) and by complimentary special delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. Thank you.
