Description

A gem of a piece of c1900 concentrated design in the Arts and Crafts genre, which also resembles some of the German / Murrle Bennett pieces of the day. It is a powerful piece of design, clearly having been created by an excellent maker, as the work is fine and precise.

Hand crafted, this is very Jugendstil in design but there are tell-tale English touches to the work, which point it towards being an English piece. Hand crafted toggle and rope work twist roundel for the fastener; fine rope work detailing around the stone’s setting, as well as around the form of the main pendant section; tiny silver balls flanking links.

The central turquoise and three long wing pearls (river pearls) are in excellent order. In fact the only tiny thing I spotted was on one of the round suspending links…the central one is is twisted to suspend the pearl. I mention this only for accuracy-there is nothing to see unless you scrutinise and I do! It has most likely been like that for decades and decades.

A lovely articulated piece, with super movement as you move. The pendant section measures approx 4.7 cm including the tiny bale. I love that the two chains are attached separately to the bale so that the pendant does not slide around loosely on a chain. The wearable length for your neck is approx 42cm (16.5 inches).
