Description

What an incredibly unusual and unique piece. It is the ultimate Arts and crafts festoon necklace, crafted by hand and created in the c1920 era and attributed to Amy Sandheim. The weighty Arts and Crafts chain used throughout this festoon design is familiar from other pieces I have seen from the era. No less than six separate festoon chains are draped either side of this spectacular piece, culminating in two large rectangular, silver set enamel plaques…cobalt blue tortoiseshell on one side and yellow, reddy brown tortoiseshell design on the other.

This is a beautiful design and obviously, because of its grandure, it is a very effective statement piece. I love that you have the ability to wear it either way around, depending on which colour you prefer or which suits your outfit better. The small hand-crafted openwork flower drop is currently set with the design being the correct way with the blue enamels. However, you can simply ask your jeweller to undo the jump ring and you can flip the flower so that it is facing outwards on the yellow/red side. Two necklaces in one.

Exquisite hand detailing on the enamel on both sides to emulate naturalistic designs such as tortoiseshell which was used a lot in the early years of the 1900s. Much better to have this bright enamel! The chains all drape beautifully when worn and it is a very tactile piece with some weight to it. The drop section of the loop and flower plaque measures a touch over 5cm and the wearable length of the piece is approx 42.5cm (16.75 inches).

She is a weighty jewel, in excellent condition, with some patina. She has had a strong catch replacement at some point.

I shall send in a new necklace presentation box by Special Delivery within the UK or else by International Express courier. Boxes in the images are for display only and are not included.
