A truly fine piece of jewellery, in every step of its being, from conception to execution. A superior piece of fine jewellery, highlighting perhaps, collectively, the most beautifully cut stones I have come across in a piece of jewellery. The aventurine stones are a jade green colour with darker specks and glittery elements….captivating! The necklace is c1910 but also (mainly because of the green stone used) seems to make the transition to a more Art Deco look.
It carries the maker’s initials on the reverse, G.E.W, plus the “9CT” stamp plus a hand etched number “7”. This is a longer length negligee pendant necklace complete with its original barrel fastener, also typical of the early years of the twentieth century. A horizontally-set sugarloaf cabochon of aventurine is set as the first of the stones. The two pendant sections suspended below are of different lengths. Each has a vertically-set sugarloaf cab of aventurine first on the chain and then culminates in an extended aventurine drop, cut fabulously to have a flat back and a “seam down the front”. Exceptionally cut stones indeed. The two drop stones have a beautiful, scalloped gold cap setting each and the others are all in their own fine millegrain gold settings. These are so exquisitely done, as you can see on the images of the verso. Open-backed too, to allow that sparkle to be easily seen.
A fine piece of jewellery, the quality and design of which will make you smile. In outstanding condition for her age and just a wonderful piece of jewellery design. The longest drop section from the top of the vertically-set cab is approx 11.8cm and the wearable length of the chain is approx 54cm (21.25 inches).
Aventurine, being a green stone, is purported to promote wellness in the heart chakra, promoting love and abundance, as well as facilitating healing. Beautiful!
