A beauty of a brooch, which is actually large and of statement size. I have never quite seen before the precise detailing that is to be found in these leaves; they have been beautifully worked by hand and there is such an accurate naturalistic quality about the whole piece.
The leaves have been draped around the design and over parts of some of the green apple chrysoprase stones. The stones are pear shaped, domed and have been superbly cut. The brooch has the feel of either Sibyl Dunlop or Edith Linnell piece, not least because of the flat, smooth finish to the verso…much more in keeping with Sibyl actually. The quality is outstanding and I am sure if you are looking for a foliate Arts and Crafts brooch, you really could not ask for more than this. It is a delight.
Measuring a touch over 9cm in length, it is a remarkable piece that will definitely get noticed. In excellent order, with original pin and simple C clasp. No wear to stones so she really is pristine. Some patina which adds depth to the leaves’ detailing.
