This is the first time I have ever come across a double drop Georgian pendant, which surely must be a Toi et Moi piece to underline love between two people. It was created in the 1800s and I think it is from France, having a tiny punch mark on the jump ring near the original barrel fitting. This is such a striking and unusual piece of antique jewellery and as I said, I have never come across another like this to date. Such a beautiful thing!
With its lovely original barrel fastener and chains, this necklace has two round pastes set, in typical Georgian fashion, at the centre of the chain. From each is suspended a fine silver chain,-varied lengths which again, just gives it that design edge….beautiful! The main pendants suspended from the chains resemble a flower, perhaps an orchid, with the top section being constructed like a cap. There is articulation in each, as the three long drops suspended from the cap are attached separately and therefore swing around as you wear it. Each ends in a pointed silver piece.
The silver ware is all original. There have been some paste replacements, as you would completely expect and as is typical for paste pieces from this era and of such history, some pastes are brighter than others. However, for her age she is in good order. The longest drop (on the right as you look at the necklace) measures approx 6cm and the wearable length of the necklace is approx 38cm (15 inches) so it wears as a choker.
A real standout piece of jewellery because of its unusual and attractive design – fabulous! I shall send in a new gift box (box in images is for display only) and I will send by complimentary tracked and signed post. Thank you.
