Description
A wonderful Art Nouveau pendant, fully hallmarked for the year 1906 and with the maker’s mark of “HM” for Henry Matthews. I love Matthews’ designs as they are so evocative of the Art Nouveau era, with their sinuous, flowing lines and leaf / heart shapes. Matthews created pieces of gold Art Nouveau jewellery for Liberty & Co, London. This is a lovely example of one of his pendants, with a large bale, so you can simply add your own chain, as the listing is for the pendant only.
With stylised leaves and those whiplash lines, this is a design I love, especially with the amethyst stones. The pale plum faceted amethyst stones are bezel-set and look so lovely against the yellow of the gold. The teardrop amethyst suspended below the main section, adds a touch of articulation. To the verso , we have the HM mark and underneath it, in hand etched numbers is the jewellers number for the piece. It has full UK assay marks for Birmingham and the year 1906. The articulated bale is also stamped for 9ct gold authenticity which is a nice touch.
It measures approx 4.5cm in height and is in pleasing condition. I shall send in a new gift box as the boxes in the images are for display only. Complimentary special delivery within the UK is included, as is International tracked and signed. Thank you.
