Description
Goodness….a staggeringly impressive antique full riviere necklace with 40 superb faceted citrines of a graduated nature that comes with important provenance. In buttery yellow metal, I am assuming silver with 18ct gold overlaid, as some of these large settings surely would not cope if crafted throughout in only gold. A strongly opulent design aesthetic and a necklace that had been gifted by a successful businessman, Charles Edward Greener of the famous “Greener Guns” in Birmingham c1920. Gifted to his beloved daughter, Catherine Hutton Jessie Greener on the occasion of her 21st birthday. (Please see note of provenance that comes with the necklace).
It is a fine piece of jewellery, stuffed full of claw -set faceted citrines of wonderful matching colour-looking sublime with the buttery settings. An Edwardian piece and one of the finest examples I have ever come across. Graduated in nature, there are 40 citrines in total, all cut and matched exquisitely. The central stone is large and attached to the chain at the top of the setting so it becomes more of a feature in the display. The citrine set box clasp is stunning…..citrines all the way around the necklace – what a dream. There is a 9ct gold Edwardian safety chain still attached and that gives you added security when wearing this stunning thing.
You simply cannot help smiling when you see and feel this necklace -it is truly exquisite and of such fine quality too. I can only imagine how it felt for that 21 year old daughter to receive such a gorgeous thing from her father. A real piece of English history.
A sumptuous piece of antique jewellery and one that is also extremely scarce. Perhaps the 40 stones are significant to you, perhaps you love citrines or perhaps you simply adore sparkling antique jewels. It is a crowd pleaser for sure.
The largest citrine measures approx 18mm across and the smallest, approx 6mm. The length of the necklace is approx 50.5cm (approx 19.75 inches). In outstanding condition for an important antique jewel and no damage to the stones. She has been well cared-for.
I shall send by complimentary special delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. I will package this beautiful thing in a new gift box, as the boxes in the images are for display only. Thank you.
