A tremendously eye catching c1900 JUGENDSTIL / Art Nouveau piece of jewellery, which has obviously been hand crafted by the jeweller. It is a glorious statement piece which shows the mastery of design- juxtaposing the brilliance of the silver details with the highly reflective, faceted hematites. With a typical Arts and Crafts theme of vine leaves, you can see the individual construction of each leaf, so carefully detailed and so precisely placed in the design.
The wonderful “bubbling” appearance of the main oval section of the pendant is reminiscent of grapes and there are also single grape details interspersed in the design. A small leaf and a tiny bunch of grapes detailing sit at the very top, with a secluded bale sitting at the back of the pendant. The large, sparkling hematite at the centre is highly reflective and has a typical A&C rope work detail at its base.
The three wonderful drops show the hand set nature of the jeweller’s work-with each faceted and glittering stone being set in its own hand crafted collar. Just fabulous work!
The pendant measures approx 5.5cm in height. Please note the sale includes the pendant only. The chain is not included and was used to demonstrate the wearing of the pendant.
A beauty of a piece in excellent order-even the hematites have been well protected which is so satisfying. Hematites are the ultimate stone to transform negative energy into positive so many people believe they are a stone of protection. Black and silver always make a dramatic juxtaposition.
No marks but tests as sterling silver. I shall send by Tracked and signed post in a new gift box. Please note I am not currently sending to Germany.
