Description

A beautiful, hand-crafted antique c1900 Arts and Crafts ring, which is firmly attributed to Mary Thew of the Glasgow Girls. This ring is so flattering on the finger and really is such an attractive design. On a typical double A&C band in silver, the lovely opal in the centre is flanked by the usual swirls and rope work circles, we see in a number of Mary’s pieces. It’s a joy of a piece!

It looks like the lively opal is an Australian Boulder opal and I love to see the electric greens and blues flash as you move your finger. I’m not sure the photos give a true indication of the fiery nature of this stone but I am sure you will enjoy the vivid blues and greens, along with the occasional flash of orange/red. So lovely to see elaborate detailing around the central stone. Large hand-crafted spirals, one on each shoulder and then a small plaque section to the top and bottom of the stone, each showing a small circle in rope work and several silver balls placed in strategic positions.

I love the organic and naturalistic feel of the ring, which has been lovingly hand-crafted. You can see the work that has gone into this lovely piece and it is astonishing that she is such an antique, as the design has not dated. It is a perennial!

In pleasing condition- the lines you see on the opal verso are actually natural inclusions in the opal. One tiny natural pitting in the opal seen under a strong loupe is all I could find. Some patina  that you could polish away if preferred. She is in great shape and ready to adorn your finger. The face of the ring measures approx 2cm in height and the size is approx UK size L.5 (US size 6).

I shall send in a new ring box by complimentary tracked and signed or else Special Delivery within the UK. Thank you.
