Description
This is a beautiful hand-crafted and fully signed Murrle Bennett Arts and Crafts design from the c1900 era. It has clearly been remarkably well looked-after as the condition of the enamel is pristine. The eye-popping bright turquoise is difficult to capture in the images – it is vivid and the design, although a smaller pendant, makes a big design punch.
The central mother-of-pearl is bezel-set and is surrounded by a halo of hand-hammered (planished) silver. Surrounding that we have the final halo of five vibrant enamel forget-me-not flowers that have a little dab of yellow enamel in their centres. Groupings of three verdant green enamelled leaves sit between each flower. Two original silver chains lead from the pendant to the bale, which, again, is the original MB bale. Fully stamped to the verso with the “950” mark for silver of a higher grade than sterling and also with the “MBo” maker’s mark. I will also include the antique silver chain with the barrel fastener, that you see in the images. It is stamped “STERLING”.
The height of the pendant, including the bale is approx 4.3cm and the wearable length of the chain is approx 41cm (16 inches). Many of the Murrle Bennett pieces were sold at Liberty’s of London.
I will send in a new gift box by Royal Mail’s international tracked and signed internationally or else by Special Delivery within the UK. The box in the images is for display only-thank you.
