A beautiful, fully signed Murrle Bennett Arts and Crafts / Jugendstil hammered silver statement pendant necklace with matching spacers and double chains. It is beautiful, not least because it is a little more difficult to come across a necklace with citrines instead of the usual amethysts. As in the best Murrle Bennett pieces, the stones are set in gold, so the yellow really sings.
In all original and excellent condition, matching hammered silver spacers, which are round and lead your eye back to the main round pendant section. The lovely, original silver fetter link chains, which double from the spacers to the pendant, are lovely. As is the original toggle fastener, that can be replaced in many other examples but which is retained here. Crafted in 950 silver, a higher grade silver than sterling and usually reserved for the finest pieces.
The ornate detailing on the central section is lovely, especially the hammered silver finish with those super faux rivets, very distinctive of MB’s Arts and Crafts pieces of the era. Lovely rich lemon yellow faceted citrines look so fabulous in their gold settings.
The pendant section carries the usual “950” stamp as well as a clear Murrle Bennet maker’s mark “MBo”. The wearable length of the necklace is approx 42cm (16.5 inches). The drop from the top of the round pendant section to the bottom drop is approx 4.3cm.
