Wonderful design by Otto Prutscher for Levinger & Bissinger, Pforzheim, which is a book piece. The pendant (and similar brooch) appear on p214 of Fritz Falk’s book “Art Nouveau Jewellery from Pforzheim”. This combination of green enamel with the chrysoprase stones looks fresh and crisp against the creamy white of the blister pearl. Otto Prustcher designed some of the most exceptional Jugendstil designs, in my opinion, and he also worked for several of the best Pforzheim jewellery houses over the course of his career. Fabulous!

This winged creature creation is actually quite a large piece, with lovely detailing. The outstretched wings have that lovely plique-a-jour so the light comes flooding through. Such a glorious piece. The pendant is on a choker length antique niello and silver gilt chain which matches the pendant so beautifully I think. It has a dog clip, also with niello detailing. It looks like tiny Austrian silver marks but I am not able to interpret them as they are so small. Clearly approx c1900, matching the pendant. The pendant measures approx 4.8cm in height (including the bale) by approx 3.3cm wide. The chain measures approx 40cm (15.75 inches). When I tried this on it put the pendant resting comfortably below my throat at the front. It looks as amazing when worn, as you would hope.

All in pleasing condition, all plique is intact. One or two lines of crazing (as is usual) but all is stable and solid. Pleasing, especially for such a large plique piece. Marks are rubbed on the reverse with part of the word “DEPOSE” still being visible.

I will post internationally by courier and by Royal Mail’s tracked and signed in the UK. I will send well-packaged in a box to protect this spectacular thing.
