Description

An outstanding, Museum quality piece of Jugendstil design, by Otto Prutscher for the Pforzheim firm of Levinger & Bissinger. It is fully signed as you would expect with the firm’s maker mark as well as “DEPOSE” and “900”. It is in superb condition and would happily sit as part of any museum collection, as the colour play in the opals is sublime.

The central bezel-set opal has a lot of colour flashes from greens, to reds to purples and the six small opals at the top of the organic design, as you can see, are the most tremendous colours. The green plique-a-jour enamel fades from a pale green at the top of the design, to a darker green at the base of the brooch. The whole piece is just such a beautiful Jugendstil design and the opals really add that extra touch of the sublime to the piece.

Otto Prutscher designed for some of the biggest names in the jewellery world in Pforzheim, including Theodor Fahrner, as well as for Levinger & Bissinger. This brooch is in fabulous condition and measures approx 2.8cm by 3.5cm. Fully stamped as you would hope.
