A very rare pair of Arts and Crafts Bernard Instone foliate earrings in a design I have come across in silver before but never, like these, in 18ct gold. The buttery yellow of the 18ct gold works so well with the pale amethysts -a joyful combination. The amethysts are very well matched and are cut beautifully.
The earrings have already been adapted to gold posts with 9ct gold butterfly backs, so they are conveniently ready to wear as soon as you receive them. They have an element of articulation about them, as the top section that sits at the lobe, has a three-leaf design The main part contains the claw-set large amethyst and a selection of leaves and tendrils draped over the top and sides of the stone. As said, a recognised Bernard design, with his instantly recognisable leaf design and decoration. They make quite the statement and measure approx 3.3cm in height. As mentioned, the twinkling amethysts are a pale plum in colour and are open-backed to allow the light to flood through the stones.
