Description
How wonderful to find such a beautiful Edwardian moonstone necklace, especially crafted in high carat gold. It tests as 18ct gold. It is also rather more substantial a chain than you usually find, as it has good weight to it. Usually one finds a trace chain on c1910 Edwardian necklaces like this, however, this more robust chain adds an extra layer of gravitas to the piece.
I also adore the wonderful festoon design with those three central chains connecting all 9 moonstones. The stones have good adularescence and are most likely Ceylon blue moonstones. As you can see on the images, the flashes of blue against the buttery yellow gold really is a lovely vision. All stones are spectacle-set undamaged and original to the piece. The largest stone is suspended right at the bottom of the design and measures approx 1.1cm in height. The moonstone decorated panel measures approx 8.5cm wide by 5.4cm in height. An antique piece so length is not huge – approx 37cm (a touch over 14.5 inches). Of course, you could add an extender chain if you needed more length. You see that quite a lot on these antique necklaces.
A beauty of a piece, in excellent condition. I had my jeweller replace the old fragile clasp for a more secure 9ct gold clasp so she is ready to wear! I shall send in a necklace presentation box by complimentary special delivery within the UK or else by express courier internationally. All boxes in the images are not included. Thank you.
